5 Ways to Control Your Thoughts, Take Responsibility And Stop Being A Victim!

Are you aware of how powerful your thoughts are?

 

Numerous great thought leaders over the years, many that I have invested countless hours of studying, seem to have the same idea when it comes to our thoughts, which is “Our thoughts shape our reality”.

 

The beauty of this, is if your reality is not-so-good right now, you absolutely have the POWER to change it! One of the greatest lessons I have learned, which has had a massive impact, is one of accepting full responsibility for myself and for my life.

 

I see far too many people, day by day, “Sleep-walking through life”, who claim themselves to be victims of some outside force.

 

Being a victim is giving your power away!

 

When we no longer choose to be a victim of circumstance, we take our POWER back!! This change of thinking allows us to have greater control over our lives.

 

This can be a very challenging thought for many, especially if you’ve spent years blaming others for your problems.

 

In the book, Above Life’s Turmoil, James Allen writes, “You imagine your circumstances being separate from yourself, but they are intimately related to your thought world. Nothing appears without an adequate cause.”

 

So, to get control of our circumstances, we must first acknowledge personal responsibility for being where we are. We all have a “victim” inside of us that doesn’t want to take responsibility, but the sooner we can quiet this small thinking voice, the sooner we can begin to set our sail in a different direction.

 

In the beginning it can be hard to take control of our thoughts because it seems to be our nature to think negatively, but that is just because it is a habit we’ve developed. And like any habit, it can be changed by replacing it with the habit of thinking the right way.

 

It has been almost 6 years since I made the decision to set my sail in a different direction.

I boldly decided that I was no longer going to accept the reality of being stressed out and overwhelmed as one that I wanted to keep for myself. My quest for a more peaceful, calm, joyful, loving and healthier life experience began.

I knew that If my life was going to change, I had to change. It took some time, but soon I accepted full responsibility that what I was doing wasn’t working and I had to find a new way of doing things. This is when I dove deep into the realm of personal growth and development.

I began reading books by Joel Osteen, Tony Robbins, Martha Beck, Louise Hay and many other great thought leaders. My life slowly began to change.

 

I would love to tell you that you can just snap your fingers, rub the magic genie lamp and everything -POOF- overnight changes, but you know as well as I do, that this kind of work takes time.

 

It has been my observation that the average person isn’t willing to put in the time. (Thanks goodness I’m not average). They would rather stay within their “comfortable” reality, even though being sick, or over-weight, or broke, or alone (which is the reality for many) isn’t very comfortable, it is simply all they know.

 

Well, I am here to tell you that breaking FREE from that comfortable reality is the most exhilarating gift that I have ever given to myself and now I am wanting to share my gift with you.

This is the inspiration behind Marci Stockton Wellness. Each and everyday I challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone, share my story and break free from the self-limiting beliefs that have been trapped in my sub-conscious mind for far too long.

 

 

 

I stopped telling myself the story that I wasn’t good enough, and replaced my old stories with new, powerful, life enhancing stories so that I could not only change my own reality but show YOU the way as well.

 

In my coaching practice, I work one-on-one with my clients to find those stories that are keeping them from living their fullest, most joyful life. Together, we slay their self-limiting beasts, one by one, and create new, more powerful ones. It is amazing to see the transformation in my clients as they open up and take a leap into their greatness that they were destined to become.

 

So, what are some of the things we need to look at when going from the old to the new?

 

1.       Realize that our thoughts are the most powerful tools we’ve got.

 

First, you need to accept that whatever you believe to be true is true for you and that if you change your beliefs, then won’t that also be true for you?

 

 So, if we want to change, we first must uncover where are beliefs came from. Then, decide if the beliefs we are holding onto are helping us or harming us? If they are helping us, keep em’ and if they are harming us, throw em’ away! Creating a new truth for ourselves is imperative.

 

So, let me ask you, What are you believing about yourself right now?

 

Are you someone who thinks. “I have terrible luck”, “I am broke”, “Nothing ever works out for me”, “I am not good enough”, “Something is always wrong with me”, or do you think, “I am the luckiest person on the planet”, “I am abundant, prosperous and wealthy”, “Everything always works out for me”, “I AM ENOUGH”, “I AM Heathy, happy and free”!?

 

And that will be your truth as long as you choose to think it.

 

Which thoughts are going to lead you in the direction of a better life?

 

 

 

2.       Change your thinking first and then the evidence appears.

 

This is hugely important, so pay close attention – OUR BIG MISTAKE IS THAT WE WAIT FOR THE EVIDENCE TO APPEAR FIRST. We demand to see the evidence before we believe it to be true.

This is backwards thinking.

 

The moment you have the audacity in the not-yet-seen, your reality will begin to shift.

 

For example, when I made the decision to totally clean up my diet I had to change the way that I connected with food, which meant I had to change the way I thought about food. Food has always been comforting to me and as long as I stayed emotionally attached to it, I would continue to eat out of comfort.

 

To make this shift in thinking, I spent a lot of time visualizing what it would be like when I became the happiest, healthiest version of myself. This was necessary in changing my thinking before I could ever become the ME I so desired. This vision that I had created in my mind became so powerful that it began to take control of my actions.

 

I would write sticky notes to myself and place them inside my pantry door. Every time I went for a snack I would see these words, “I only eat food that is nourishing, healing and energizing to my body”. Overtime this became my reality.

 

Not only did I spend time visualizing and affirming my new reality, I also spent time doing research on what foods would fuel my body for energy and made a focused effort to have plenty of those types of foods on hand.

 

My reality today is yes, you guessed it … I AM the happiest, healthiest version of myself and I have never felt so good. I fuel my body for energy and my not-so -healthy cravings have vanished!

I made this my reality and you can too!

 

 

 

3.       Surround yourself with people who think the way you want to think.

 

You’ve heard the saying, “Like attracts like”? Then wouldn’t it make sense to hang out with people who have what you want to have?

 

For example, let’s say you have a goal to lose weight, wouldn’t it be a lot easier and less of a struggle if you found other people to hang with who also have a goal of losing weight? People who are motivated and would help you be accountable? Sure, you can try to get your friends and family on board, but it might be easier to push a boulder up a hill. Find people that are into fitness and clean eating and learn from them.

 

What I love about my Network Marketing Company is not only do we have amazing products, I get to hang out with the best of the best. Successful, forward thinking, no excuses, super positive and supportive like-minded individuals who want to teach me how to create a freedom lifestyle like they have created. I cannot learn to think “BIG” from people who cannot see past their front yard.

 

This doesn’t mean ditch your loved ones, just be aware that rumor has it your become like the top 5 people you hang around. (This includes your bank account too)

 

To become an expansive thinker, you gotta get out there and find people who make you feel like you can leap tall buildings in a single bound!!

 

 

 

4.       Become aware of what your stories are.

 

You are the author of your own life and the sooner you decide to write yourself a better script, the sooner you get to live a more awesome life. Listen to what you say and what you think and start busting yourself in your own lies.

 

Here are some bullsh*t words (aka the language of lack) you need to watch out for:

I can’t …

I should …

I suck at …

I wish …

I want …

I don’t have …

One day …

I’m trying to …

I always …

I never …

 

Ask yourself, “What are my favorite, play em’ like a broken record, self sabotaging stories that I am telling myself?”

 

Then re-write em’ into something better and allow the new story to begin being your truth.

 

 

 

5.       Love Yourself

 

When you love and honor yourself, you allow more love, creativity, freedom, happiness, kindness and so much more juiciness to come into your life. You also teach other people how you want to be treated in the most positive of ways because when you treat yourself well, you are going to make damn sure that other people treat you good too.

 

Speaking affirming words over your life, such as:

 

I AM …

I will …

I have …

I create …

I enjoy …

I can …

I choose …

I love …

 

 

In the beginning, affirmations are great because it is a way to retrain the mind to create a new habit and to switch out our old stinkin’ thinkin’ programs into new, more powerful, life affirming programs.
